An Evening with Mark Seligman

A discussion with author Mark Seligman on AI, machine translation, and the intersection of technology and literature

Join us in Coral Gables for a fascinating discussion with Mark Seligman, author of AI and ADA: Artificial Translation and Creation of Literature (First Hill Books, $24.95), as he traces the evolution of artificial intelligence through essays on machine translation, Nabokov’s artistry, and the rise of large language models. Blending humor, scholarship, and fresh insight, Seligman explores what machines can—and cannot—yet understand about meaning, emotion, and art. A conversation, audience Q&A, and signing will follow. 🎟 Free & open to the public — RSVP required. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Mark Seligman is Founder, President, and CEO of Spoken Translation, Inc., producer of the first broad-coverage speech translation system for healthcare, and was Chief Linguist at Speech Morphing, Inc., a vendor of text-to-speech and speech translation services. In 1998, he organized the first speech translation system demonstrating broad coverage with acceptable quality. In 2018, he organized the first conference with speech-to-text translation for all talks. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Translation Automation Users Society (TAUS) and on the Steering Committee of the International Workshop for Spoken Language Translation (IWSLT); advises the Moving Picture, Audio and Data Coding by Artificial Intelligence (MPAI) project aiming to establish AI standards; and publishes on speech translation and cognitive science topics.
