Sustainable Surf Fishing Workshop

Learn the fundamentals of surf fishing, from reading the surf to conservation techniques

Rider Ridgeway, Environmentally Endangered Lands Program Coordinator, will offer an introductory class for anyone who wants to learn how to start fishing our local beaches. Discover the excitement of surf fishing along Brevard county’s beautiful Atlantic coastline. This class offers beginner anglers the fundamentals to fishing the beach. Participants will learn how to read the surf, identify common fish species, and seasonal fish movement. We will also cover conservation techniques, essential gear and tackle selection, bait choices and casting strategies. Local fishing regulations, safety considerations, and beach etiquette will also be discussed to ensure a responsible and enjoyable fishing experience.  Everyone who participates needs to have a FWC shoreline-saltwater license, it is free for Florida residents and can be acquired online or any store that sells fishing poles. Those 15 and under or 65 and older do not need a license. You will be able to practice your skills in the water, so please dress appropriately to get wet.   You will be able to practice your skills in on the beach, so please dress appropriately to get wet and/or sandy.
