XXIX New Music Miami ISCM Festival 2026: Opening Night!

Join us for the opening of the XXIX New Music Miami ISCM Festival, led by Artistic Director Orlando Jacinto Garcia, with the acclaimed Amernet String Quartet, FIU’s Artist-in-Residence ensemble, joined by Tucson-based composer Daniel Asia and mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway for an unforgettable evening of contemporary chamber music. Hailed for performances of “immense intelligence and deeply satisfying precision,” the Amernet is recognized as one of America’s finest ensembles, captivating audiences across Europe, Asia, and the Americas with their rich, expressive sound. This special opening night features compelling works by Daniel Asia, Judith Zaimont, Stephen Dankner, and Steven Gerber—a powerful collection of contemporary voices spanning lyrical, contemplative, and boldly rhythmic sound worlds. Asia, whose music ranges from intimate chamber works to expansive symphonic writing, brings his distinctive artistic vision and decades of critical acclaim to the program, further elevated by Calloway’s expressive vocal artistry. Don’t miss this remarkable start to the festival—a rare opportunity to experience world-class musicians bringing vibrant new chamber music to life in the heart of Miami’s cultural scene. The festival is presented by the FIU Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts, with support from the City of Miami Beach, the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at Florida International University, FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios, and The Betsy South Beach Hotel and The Betsy Writers Room. The Avalon Hotel Miami Beach on Ocean Drive is the official host hotel for the festival.
