Long before modern Sarasota emerged, a thriving society flourished along its bays, rivers, and estuaries. For Sarasota's first peoples, water was not just a resource—it was the lifeblood of their civilization, a source of sustenance, a highway for travel, and a center of cultural life. Join us for a journey back in time to explore the profound connection between these indigenous communities and the aquatic world they inhabited. This presentation will highlight how they expertly navigated and utilized the local water systems, from the rich estuaries to the freshwater sources inland.
