Welcome to the "Stop Throwing Rocks at the Chain Gang" Youth Summit! This vital event aims to prevent youth crime by educating, inspiring, and empowering young people in our community. The phrase "Stop Throwing Rocks at The Chain Gang" comes from the Black community, with "rocks" symbolizing crimes and "chain gang" symbolizing prison. We aim to steer our youth away from choices that lead to incarceration. For Youth ages 13-22 years of age. Why This Summit Matters: Our community faces the critical challenge of youth involvement in crime, leading to devastating consequences. This summit provides a proactive solution by: * Educating: Providing firsthand knowledge about the legal system and the consequences of criminal behavior through expert panel discussions. * Inspiring: Sharing powerful stories of redemption from formerly incarcerated individuals who have transformed their lives, including our Co-founder and Executive Director, Donte Bates. * Empowering: Equipping youth with essential skills in mental health awareness, conflict resolution, and violence prevention through interactive breakout sessions. * Connecting: Fostering positive relationships between youth, law enforcement, and community leaders.
