Second Thursdays at the Carter: Love & Libations

A night of art, themed cocktails, and activities celebrating love in its many forms

Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection. In February, invite your crush, your crew, or come alone and meet someone new for a night themed around the many types of love in our lives. 5–5:30 p.m. Play the game “Bed, Wed, or Behead” with a Carter staff member and make your case about which artworks you love, like, or hate. 5–6:30 p.m. Giving flowers to your loved ones? Get to know the floral still-life paintings in the Carter’s collections with the Art Cart. 5–8 p.m. Listen to love-inspired songs by Aautumn [https://www.aautumn.com/]while you make an old-school Valentine’s Day card to express your feelings for someone. Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty Love Potion No. 9 cocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart. Create your own heart-shaped string art inspired by Plexus no. 34 [https://www.cartermuseum.org/collection/plexus-no-34-2018113] by Gabriel Dawe. Led by Carter Community Artist [https://www.cartermuseum.org/about/carter-community/carter-community-artists] Stuart Hausmann. Supplies limited to the first 200 people. Having trouble finding the right book for you? Have no fear because the Library is here to help with photobook speed dating! View a variety of beautiful photobooks with themes of love, family, and friendship. Get dressed up and have your photo taken with your date with Big Time Selfies [https://bigtimeselfies.com/]. Vote for your favorite artwork on view in our annual Hearts for Art. Explore the Museum Shop for great Valentine’s Day gift ideas! Enjoy 20% off merchandise and discover handmade gifts from local vendors. Some exclusions may apply. 6–7 p.m. Join a Carter art expert on a tour of artworks on view that highlight many types of love. 7–7:45 p.m. Get up close and personal with some of the Carter's finest assets with Carter educator Lily Williams. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.
