Scallop Shell-ebration: Science, Scallop Sorters, and Sips

An educational, family-friendly kickoff to Pasco’s scallop season with a free scallop sorter and optional drinks

Celebrate the start of Pasco's 2026 Scallop Season with us in Downtown New Port Richey at Ordinance One. Join Dr. Megan Moore, the UF/IFAS Extension Florida Sea Grant Agent for Pasco County, to kick off the start of scallop season. During this event, you can learn all about scalloping in Pasco, how to catch and cook scallops, and take home a free scallop sorting tool! This event will be educational, family-friendly, and fun! So stop by and hang out with fellow scallopers, grab a pint from Ordinance One if you like, and learn something new! In Pasco County, Scallop season starts July 10th! To help support the future scallop populations, Florida Sea Grant recommends the use of Scallop Sorters. These devices will help you to measure the scallops and throw back scallops less than 2 inches in size. Florida's Sports Coast has sponsored the scallop sorters so that you can take them home for free! The University of Florida is committed to providing universal access to all of our events. For disability accommodations, please contact Megan Moore at me.moore@ufl.edu at least 1 week in advance. Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.
