Food Horizons Panel: School Programs for Nutrition and Well-being

A free community panel on school nutrition, PE, and children’s health programs

What does it mean to truly invest in a child's health? It starts before a diagnosis. It starts before a habit becomes hard to break. It starts in the school cafeteria, the PE class, the nutrition lesson — or the absence of one. It starts with whether a child is taught that food is medicine, that movement is joy, and that their body deserves care. On Thursday, July 23rd, Food Horizons invites San Antonio to come together for our summer Forum: Building Lifelong Health: School Programs for Nutrition and Well-being. A community conversation — curated, candid, and focused on action. We will bring together educators, school nutrition professionals, physical education advocates, public health practitioners, and community members to explore a question that matters for every family in this city: How do we educate our children about nutrition and physical well-being — and are we doing enough? We'll explore: — What San Antonio schools are doing well in nutrition and PE programming — Where the gaps are — and why they persist — What research, practice, and lived experience tell us about what works — The partnerships, policies, and practices that could move the needle for our children. Our Panelists: * Moderator; Gabriella Moreno of Founder and Consultant, Your Vegan Consultant * Chef JJ Powell; Chef, High School Senior and host of The Table by Chef JJ * Becca Smith; Director of Community Health & Nutrition Education San Antonio Food Bank * Chrystal Johnson; Director of Operations, Social and Health Research Center Who should attend: This forum is for educators, school administrators, nutritionists, dietitians, physical education professionals, public health advocates, parents, community organizers, and anyone who believes that children's health is a community responsibility.
