ASL Nature Series: Special Trees of Atlanta

A free ASL-interpreted nature walk at Mason Mill Park focused on tree identification and ecology

What to expect: Join us for the third in a series of four FREE nature programs with ASL interpretation provided by Sign1News|Sign1Studios|Sign1U [https://sign1news.com/]. Members of the DHH community are invited for a nature walk about the amazing trees at Mason Mill Park. Ranger Jonah will teach about tree identification and ecology and lead the group past many of the biggest and most interesting trees in the park. We will walk paved trails, dirt trails, and boardwalks in search of the park's special trees. All voiced content will be interpreted in ASL. This program will last 2 hours. Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Jonah McDonald, the DeKalb County Park Naturalist at Mason Mill Park. ASL Interpretation provided by Sign1News|Sign1Studios|Sign1U [https://sign1news.com/]. Where to meet: Find Ranger Jonah at the South Peachtree Creek trailhead near the Mason Mill Tennis Center (McConnell Dr & Mason Mill Rd). Recommended ages: This program content is designed for adults and kids, but all ages are welcome. Restrooms: Public restrooms are near the playground and bathrooms are available at DeKalb Tennis Center when the Pro Shop is open (top of the purple pyramid). Dogs: Leashed dogs are welcome. Weather contingency: This program will be held, rain or shine, unless conditions are dangerous. Walking distance: 2 miles Exposure: This walk is mostly under tree canopy, but a few sections are exposed to sun and wind. Trail surface & accessibility: This program mostly stays on durable surfaces (concrete & boardwalk) but we will also take a few single track hiking trails with dirt surfaces that have some roots and rocks. There are a few places where the grade is slightly above 5%. Paved trail width is greater than 10 feet and curb cuts provide appropriate transitions between surfaces.
