Managing High Stakes Disputes: When Arbitration Feels Like Litigation (CLE)

A CLE program on managing complex arbitration with insights from legal experts and practical strategies

Arbitration is designed to be a streamlined, cost-effective alternative to traditional litigation. However, in high-stakes commercial disputes, the process often morphs into "litigation light," characterized by extensive discovery demands, aggressive motion practice, and protracted hearings. This CLE program is co-hosted and sponsored by the South Asian Bar Association of South Florida and the American Arbitration Association. It provides a comprehensive "360-degree view" of complex arbitration, featuring perspectives from the advocate, the arbitrator, and the arbitral institution (AAA). Attendees will learn practical strategies to rein in runaway arbitrations, effectively utilize AAA Commercial and Construction Large Complex Case (LCC) rules, and navigate the specific ethical duties and disclosure requirements that arise when high-stakes arbitration mimics litigation. Whether you are a litigator, transactional attorney, in-house counsel, or early-career practitioner, this program offers valuable perspective on the evolving role of arbitration. Light refreshments will be provided. CLE Credits - Business Litigation 1.5 credits (includes 0.5 Ethics) Panelists include: Rishi Bagga, Esq., AAA Arbitrator, Of Counsel of the Grosshans Group, and former President of SABA Florida and SABA North America Harsh Arora, Esq., Partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP and Director/Board Member of SABA Florida Iman Hyder-Eliz, AAA Regional Vice President in Construction Kiera O'Rourke, JD, AAA Director of ADR Services in Commercial Moderator: Brhea D'Mello, 3L from University of Miami Law School.
