Second Thursdays at the Carter: Toasts & Tunes

Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection. In May, enjoy an evening enhanced with art making and themed cocktails while listening to local musicians perform on our Porch. SCHEDULE 5–8 P.M. | PORCH Listen to Texas High Road [https://www.texashighroad.com/] and dance on our Porch as the sun sets. Texas High Road is a high-energy Texas country band led by lifelong friends Hillary and Stephanie, whose harmonies were forged singing together at local opries across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Blending classic country tradition with a fresh, modern edge, the duo delivers tight vocal harmonies, crowd-pleasing originals, and feel-good country music made for singing along. 5–8 P.M. | PLAZA Join Carter Community Artist [https://www.cartermuseum.org/about/carter-community/carter-community-artists] Elizabeth Hudson to play with watercolor in this hands-on art making session. Explore pattern, texture, and resist techniques as you layer washes and discover unexpected effects. Create a small, one-of-a-kind painting that reflects your own sense of rhythm and design. Head to the bar for an art-inspired cocktail or mocktail, with three options of each to choose from and something for every taste. Curious how they connect? Santos Tacos [https://santostacostx.info/] will be on site with crowd-favorite street tacos and more, available for purchase. Fuel up between activities and keep the night going. 5–8 P.M. | LAWN Head out to the lawn for yard games and a little friendly competition. Play a round of giant Jenga or cornhole, claim bragging rights, or just enjoy the moment. 6–6:30 P.M. | INFORMATION DESK Join educator Andi Severin for a cocktail-inspired tour that pairs works from the collection with three specialty cocktails and mocktails inspired by the art on view. Along the way, explore creative connections between flavor and form and discover how each drink reflects elements of color, mood, and composition.
