From June - August the top 20 scoring poets have been invited to compete in a competition which will award $2100 to the winners as well as the title Write About Now Individual Poetry Slam Champion as well as the Houston Individual Poetry Slam Champion. On July 14th, we will host 10 of the top poets in Houston compete for 4 spots in finals happening on August 11th. The poets competing include: To be announced. A poetry slam is a fun, energy-filled and competitive poetry event where the best poets perform their work and are judged by random members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 scale) based on the poets' content and performance. The high score and the low score are dropped and the rest are added to give the poet their score for that round. The bottom 6 scoring poets will be eliminated. The remaining 4 poets will randomly draw their position in the second round and then go in reverse order in the third. We will the add up all three scores and announce our winners.
