BYOB. Doors & snacks at 4 PM, movie at 5, dinner at 6. "Mr. Blank, who is known primarily for films about down-home music, started out to document Alice Waters's Garlic Festival at her Berkeley restaurant, Chez Panisse, but the project expanded; how could he leave out Mexicans, Italians, Hunan Chinese, Arlesienne French, Gypsies? What about the Yucutan fish that's cooked with a head of garlic in its mouth? What about the annual Garlic Queen competition? They're in the film, of course, which bounces along through a look at California's garlic fields, music from garlic-loving cultures and a glimpse of the enemy - a mouthwash commercial. Dried, processed, industrialized garlic also comes in for abuse, while extravagant claims are made for the healing powers of garlic in the raw."-Jon Pareles, the New York Times A large selection of Records CD’s and Swag will be available for purchase.
