12th Annual Groundwater Summit

A public summit on groundwater management in Central Texas, covering water demand, aquifers, permits, and local rules

As population growth, industrial development, and new water-intensive projects continue to reshape Central Texas, groundwater management is becoming more complex and more important to understand. This Summit is designed to be more open, practical, and easy for the public to be more involved in the discussions. Instead of focusing on technical terms and science, speakers will explain what is happening with groundwater in this region, what information the District uses to make decisions, and what those decisions mean for landowners, well owners, communities, and future growth. Topics will include current and future water demand in Texas, data centers and industrial water use, groundwater issues being discussed at the Capitol, how aquifers actually work, what water-level monitoring can tell us, and how local groundwater rules, permits, and programs are used to manage the resource over time. The Summit will also look at how the District evaluates whether its rules and management strategies are working as intended. That includes how water-level data is reviewed, how long-term aquifer goals are considered, and how the District responds when new information, legal questions, or local concerns come forward.
