Where We Stay | Gallery Exhibition Opening

Explore Black cultural heritage through contemporary art at this exhibition opening reception

Join us on Thursday, June 11 from 6:30–8:30 PM at The Daisy Arts Center for the opening reception of Where We Stay, a major exhibition curated by Tayina Deravile exploring the architecture of home across Black communities—how it is built, inherited, remembered, and made sacred through generations. Rooted in the legacy of Dr. James Sistrunk and Daisy Sistrunk, whose home became a site of cultural exchange, civic gathering, and Black excellence, Where We Stay draws from the living history of the Sistrunk corridor and the communities that shaped it. Their residence—once recognized by Ebony Magazine as a symbol of achievement and collective pride—stood as a reminder that home has long served as both sanctuary and stage for Black cultural life. Featuring eight contemporary artists; Allison Bolah, Adrienne Chadwick, Amaya Estrada, Clarence Josey II, Emmanuel George, Shawna Moulton, Cornelius Tulloch, and Carrington Ware, the exhibition considers home not as a fixed structure, but as a living archive—of memory, migration, adornment, kinship, and belonging. The opening reception will unfold across the full Daisy Arts Center campus, inviting guests into an evening of art, conversation, and communal gathering, with culinary offerings by Sidecar Catering. An opening. A homecoming. A living record of what endures.
